French Drain Installation

Effective, long-term solutions for managing groundwater and surface water issues.

What is a French Drain?

A French drain is a time-tested and highly effective solution for managing water in your garden, around your property's foundation, or near retaining walls. It is essentially a gravel-filled trench that contains a perforated pipe, designed to collect and redirect surface water and groundwater away from an area where it can cause problems.

This system is ideal for preventing water from pooling in lawns, creating boggy conditions, or putting hydrostatic pressure against your foundation walls, which can lead to penetrating damp in basements and ground floors.

When Do You Need a French Drain?

A French drain is the perfect solution if you are experiencing any of the following issues:

Waterlogged Gardens

Your lawn is constantly boggy, squelchy, or has standing water after rain.

Damp in Cellars

Water pressure from saturated ground is pushing against your foundation walls, causing dampness inside.

Our French Drain Installation Process

We ensure your drainage system is installed correctly to provide maximum protection for your property.

A perforated pipe is laid in a trench on a bed of gravel.

The trench being backfilled with gravel and covered

The system is backfilled and can be covered with turf or gravel.

Our Process Includes:

  1. Site Survey & Planning: We assess the topography of your land to determine the best location and route for the drain.
  2. Excavation: A trench is carefully dug to the correct depth and gradient, ensuring water flows naturally to a designated soakaway or discharge point.
  3. Laying the System: The trench is lined with a non-woven geotextile membrane, a bed of clean gravel is laid, and the perforated pipe is placed.
  4. Backfilling: The pipe is covered with more gravel, and the membrane is folded over to prevent soil and silt from clogging the system.
  5. Finishing: The trench can then be topped with soil and re-turfed, or finished with decorative stone, making the system virtually invisible.
